Darkside-50 is designed to detect Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs). My bachelor thesis focused on a method to discriminate the nuclear scattering caused by neutral particles (like WIMPs and Neutrons) from background radiation. This discrimination method was based on the different shape of signals generated by the two types of scattering. After my Bachelor Degree I got interested into electronics and I chose the specialization in Electronics. My master thesis research activity is part of a joint project between the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare and STMicroelectronics, to design and produce innovative pixel detectors for ionizing radiation, using BCD8 technology. The first application of the new devices will be within the ATLAS experiments at CERN. A part of my thesis was about signal and noise analysis and simulations of the first design of pixel detector in BCD technology. An other part of my thesis was about test resistance of this BCD technology in radiation environment. I have characterized MOS transistors in BCD technology before and after irradiation with protons at Laboratori Nazionali del Sud in Catania, and step-by-step with γ-rays at Laboratiorio Energia Nucleare Applicata in Pavia.
On September 25th I presented all results obtained in these experiments at 101st Congress of Società Italiana di Fisica. Interests – Music (Piano, Organ, Choir director)
