Esperienze

From 7/03/2007 Company : Prisma Engineering (Milan) Function : Chief Designer – Lead Designer Subject : Multi-terminal Simulator for mobile communications Activity : LTE OFDMA modem design (3GPP–EUTRA standard) using VHDL for Virtex-5 FPGA UMTS modem design, with HSDPA and HSUPA support, using VHDL for Virtex-5 FPGA WiMax OFDM modem design (IEEE 802.16e/d standards) using VHDL for Virtex-4 FPGA

From 5/12/2006 To 28/2/2007 Company : Screen Service (Milan) Function : Senior Consultant Subject : Digital Video Broadcasting Activity : Digital stereo audio modulator design, for NICAM TV standard, using VHDL for Virtex-4 FPGA

From 3/07/2006 To 30/10/2006 Company : STMicroelectronics (Milan) Function : Senior Consultant Subject : Computer System Division Activity : RTL synthesis process, scripting and timing closure for a two million gates System on Chip device for laser printing using Synopsys Design Compiler (SpearPLUS project)

From 01/09/2000 To 31/05/2006 Company : Ericsson (Milan) Function : Team Leader – System Architect – Senior Digital Designer – Tutor Subject : Wireless Broadband Access Area of Transmission Division Activity : I’ve been involved in two system conceptions (Cryptography and MAC architecture for ATM Point-to-Multipoint radio link) and two QAM modem designs acting as team leader and also as VHDL digital designer. The former had adaptive constellation format according to propagation conditions (it was implemented using two Spartan III FPGAs); the latter, using presetting registers, was agile in terms of QAM constellation (it was an ASIC design). Moreover I designed VHDL IPs for FPGA devices (Viterbi decoder, HDLC, Triple-DES, AES). I performed tutoring and technical coordination activities and I attended the Xilinx FPGA user expert symposium (Paris – 2000).

From 04/02/1992 To 30/08/2000 Company : Siemens (Milan) Function : Team Leader – System Architect – Senior Digital Designer – HW Designer – Tutor Subject : R&D Transmission Division Activity : I completed 44 designs in Programmable Logic technology (FPGA, PLD, GAL) and I participated in two ASIC designs for SDH and PDH radio systems. Main designs on digital and analog PLLs, UART, UTOPIA, PCI arbiter, Hitless Switch, DRAM Controller, Convolutional Interleaver. I conceived the architecture of two PCB boards (an alarm unit board and a microprocessor based general purpose board) and three FPGA PCB boards for multi-purpose use. I performed C programming experience, baseband system architecture, team coordination and tutoring activities.

Collaborations 1999/2004 National Institute of Nuclear Physics – Trainer on Programmable Logic and consultant on a FPGA-based system for a physics sub-nuclear international experiment (CERN-INFN). 2004 Stargate (Historical programme on Italian TV channel LA7) – Two video interviews in which I explained the German Enigma cipher machine used during the Second World War and the English Bomby cracking machine designed by Alan Turing to unveil the enigma code. 1999-2007 Elettronica Oggi – Electronic magazine in which I published 46 technical articles on FPGA and telecommunication technologies.

Website 2001 http://digilander.libero.it/fpga – Internet website on Programmable Logics, collecting information, links and my articles on the subject. It’s currently considered as a reference for my readers and designers.

Education 1990 Electronic Engineering University Degree (BAC+5) with specialization in Telecommunications Systems and Devices with the final result of 110/110. 1984 High School Diploma in Industrial Electronics with the final vote of 60/60

Thesis 1990 Non linear estimation techniques for radiant systems verification My thesis was a seven months research work in the applied electromagnetic fields. It was the phase recovery problem starting from near field amplitude of a radiant source.

Stages 1988 (5 days) Software approach in business marketing (IBM school – Novedrate – Como). 1983 (15 days) Naval construction techniques, shipyard organization and ship launching procedures (Fincantieri of Castellammare di Stabia – Naples).

Languages English : fluent (Shenker Certificate Level 50) Italian : mother tongue
