Experimental Thesis in LivaNova 09/2017-03/2018
Title Development and validation of the automation dedicated to the Bal Seal spring test
Description My master’s degree thesis is focused on the development of a new and innovative equipment that has
to test the Bal Seal spring, a component located in some pacemaker and defibrillator. This equipment
is an integrated system that involves a Mitsubishi robot arm and a Datalogic smart camera, moreover
it is compliant with Industry 4.0 standards. Thanks to this thesis I had the opportunity to approach
with the validation process and with all the documents that are involved to develop a new equipment. I
decided to realize my degree thesis at this company because I really wanted to know and understand
how real working world is like. I enjoyed very much to work and collaborate with more than one team
of engineers. Moreover, this experience gave me a lot of new knowledges about how a big company
works and particularly about the complete process of production and validation of a new equipment.

Title Invasiveness analysis of tumor spheroids in experiments of chemotaxis
Description This thesis is focused on understanding how the tumor cells migrate when stimulated with SFB. I
analyzed the results of several biological experiments preformed at the Curie Institute in Paris.

My aim is to follow several projects from the beginning till the end of the validation. In particular I prepare all the documents that are fundamental for the equipment development and validation: User Requirement Specification, Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis, Installation Qualification, Operational Qualification, Performance
Qualification, Test Plane (HW and SW), Change Request. During the development of a new equipment I always have an overall overview of the project and I collaborate with different teams (Regulatory, RD, Production, Quality) in order to control different topics like: mechanical design, choice of components, electronic and software requirement and development, regulatory affairs, industrialization of the equipment, lean production. Moreover, I  perform different HW and SW test in order to guarantee the equipment complete functionality. The power of this work is that our equipments are always customized and specific for our valve production so, with every different project I can always learn something new about mechanical components, software applications and validation
methods. I also attended problem solving and project management courses that were very useful to face up to allthe problems that can occur during the equipment industrialization process. Recently I attended a FMEA course performed by TUV.

Stage, LivaNova, Saluggia(VC), Junior Automation engineer – Equipment Development and
Automation.
During this stage my aim is to prepare all the documents necessary to develop and implement the validation
of new or modified equipments. All the equipments that I treat are customized because they are studied to guarantee an optimal mechanical and biological valves production. Moreover I have to plan and implement all the hardware and software test in order to verify the complete compliance of the equipment with the requirements previously established. Now I am involved in four different projects and I am following all their hardware and software progresses. Moreover I also take part during the hardware and software development. These equipments
and, as a consequence, their validation processes are really critics because the final products are heart valves and so it is important that all the process steps are reproducible and verifiable in order to produce implantable and guaranteed valves
