Main project features : The main works of this large hpp (IP = 3600 MW) include:

·        Cofferdam (raising of existing 50 m up to 100 m) and three diversion tunnels;

·        Dam (Rockfill with impervious earth-fill core type, H = 335 m);

·        Spillway (N° 5 tunnels, D = 9-15 m, Ltot = 10 km, QPMF = 7800 m3/s);

·        Power waterways and tailrace tunnels;

·        Underground power station (6 Francis turbines, IP = 6×600 MW);

2.      KIKONGE Multipurpose Dam, Irrigation scheme and HPP (IP = 235 MW)

Main project features: Kikonge projects includes a multipurpose dam, an irrigation scheme and a hydropower plant. The basic features of the project are:

·        Reservoir (V = 6,000 Mm3);

·        Dam (Rockfill type, H = 120 m)

·        Irrigation Scheme (4000 ha irrigated area);

·        Powerhouse (No. 3 Francis Turbines, IP = 235 MW, H = 90 m);

·        HV Transmission line.

3.      KAMUZU Dam I Raising and Rehabilitation

Cliente : Lilongwe Water Board (LWB)

Main project features: The scope of the assignment is the raising and upgrade of the existing Kamuzu I dam for water supply of Lilongwe. The main works foreseen are:

·        Main gravity dam, raised of 5 m (final dam: H = 20 m, L = 205 m)

·        Left earthfill dam, raised of 4.5 m (final dam: H = 18.5 m, L = 265 m)

·        Right earthfill dam, raised of 4.5 m (final dam: H = 9.5 m, L = 144 m)

·        New central spillway with 2 m height rubber dam (L = 175 m, Q = 2,560 m3/s)

4.      MBABANE – MANZINI (NONDVO) – MULTIPURPOSE DAM

Characteristics:

·        Gravity Dam (H = 55 m, Vres = 90 Mm3)

·        Irrigation (approx. 3,500 ha)

·        Water Supply (approx. 200,000 population)

·        Hydropower (IP = 0.6 MW, Q =2.5 m3/s, Eavg = 4 GWh/y)
