Career Summary

I was a senior database developer / junior SQL Dba on Microsoft SQL 2005/SQL2008 databases; the backbone of the website kalahari.com. I am comfortable with SSIS, T-SQL, SSRS, stored procedures and functions. I also have some experience in database administration.

I was a database developer and database administrator on Microsoft SQL 2000/2005 and 2008 platforms which were integral to the smooth running of the software developed in house, called Dolfin. (Management tool for stock movement, analysis and decision-making).

I was a Project Team Leader, utilising my experience in Oracle databases (Oracle8 and Oracle 10g), Oracle Forms (Forms [32 Bit] Version 6.0.5.0.2 (Production)), Oracle Reports (Report Builder 6.0.5.28.0) and Visual Basic 6.

I am a Business Intelligence Contractor in the PBT Group working with various clients on ETL solutions in their environments.

1 April 2011 to 5 May 2015, Kalahari.com, Cape Town

I was a Senior Database Developer and junior SQL DBA ensuring smooth operation and functionality of the kalahari.com website backbone, i.e. the databases.

I ensured timeous and correct response to client requests such as reports and other requirements, as well as necessary fixes for the marketing team for online promotional material, both internal to the company and external to customers who used the website.

I also developed new processes whenever required by the business’ needs.

An example of this was the new Net Promoter Score emails sent to customers to rate their Kalahari shopping experience (August 2013).

I used SSIS packages to process large amounts of data daily (copying numerous tables across servers for example), and SSRS to generate reports that were needed often as well as using the feature to generate self-service reports where users could maintain their own tables.

Reason for leaving: Retrenched during merger between Kalahari.com and Takealot.com.

01 March 2006 to 30 March 2011, UNIVERSAL COMPUTER SERVICES / Argility, Cape Town          

I was the database developer/administrator for the Dolfin (a management tool for stock and sales) Product Team based in Cape Town.

I managed all the functionality of SQL 2000, SQL 2005 and SQL 2008 databases for the various clients who utilised the Dolfin product.

For these functions, I developed and maintained procedures and developed ad-hoc queries in SQL, as well as software with visual basic 6 and vb.net whenever needed.

In addition, I was in charge of weekly time-keeping reporting for the entire UCS office in Cape Town. This involved the maintenance of the time-keeping database with all employee details and the company’s client’s details updated on a monthly basis for the BI cube extract.

01 October 1998 to 28 February 2006, UNIVERSAL COMPUTER SERVICES, Johannesburg               

I was Team Leader and managed the entire system for a company called Early Bird Services. This company offers repair services for a wide range of appliances. This system was based on Oracle 8.0.5 Database with all interfaces coming from Oracle products, namely Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports plus Visual Basic.

My main job functions were the maintenance, programming, database management, system development and the running of their month end processing. This environment is batch captured on a weekly basis. Further to this Contract maintenance system, I developed a Vehicle maintenance system for the entire Early Bird Services Fleet comprising approximately 800 vehicles. I further maintained, for other clients, namely JD and ELLERINES, the Merchandising Decision Support System and The Executive Information System. Both of these are vb 6 front end with Postgres databases and Oracle 10g databases. I also maintained the Morkels Commission system and Morkels Reports, based on Postgres database with vb 6 front end.

03 February 1997 to 30 September 1998, AMCOM Pty (Ltd)

I was Mainframe manager and managed an ICL VME Series 39 Level 80 Single Node Mainframe, and three operators. My main job functions were to control all facets of the running schedule for four customers, plus month-end processing. To do this I supplied applications programs to the clients whenever necessary, and implemented changes whenever needed to existing programs. Requirements varied from labels to statements and reports on an ongoing basis.

Reason for leaving: All IT staff was outsourced to Universal Computer Services. (Agreement of a merger)

I was a c Programmer and worked on an emulator program. This program allows COM1, COM2, INT14, PICLAN and TCP/IP multiple sessions. My main job functions were to upgrade, enhance and improve the qualities of this program. To achieve this I became familiar with C programming, interrupt routines, communications and networking.

Reason for leaving: there was no scope for improvement.
